Chapter 9
She woke up, this time far more fresh. The head didn't hurt anymore. She looked forward, and found Shyam there. Obviously, who else would have cared to even try saving her. She started sobbing, and he began comforting, and somewhere down the line, she was resting on his chest. He was probably the only true friend she ever had.
She had been rude to him. She had shown attitude. He ought to be angry at her. He ought to be furious, but he had come to save her, save her life. She couldn't bring up enough courage to even talk to him. He came silently, except for a couple of times asking her to relax.
He took her home, and asked her to take rest. She went and lied down to sleep, and after what seemed like years, she slept like a baby. She slept for a marathon 12 hours, and then woke up to find him waiting for her, with tea ready. She read up the walls.
Shyam Rajaraman I.P.S, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mussourie, it read. It was far from necessary for an I.P.S, a D.C.P to deliver hand-made tea for her. He really loved her, didn't he?
She was drinking the tea, as he spoke, "I would like to spend the rest of my life with you Deepa. I know you are too pained to answer this now, but I worry if I'll find another opportunity. Will you marry me?"
Deepika was shocked. Someone wanted to even marry her. "What do I have Shyam? I've lost everything one could have possibly admired me for. I'm bruised, hurt, and stupid. I've lost the gleam my eyes once possessed, I've lost the confidence with which I once lived life, I've lost the freedom that bound me to a wonderful life, I've lost the independence my mind once possessed. I've lost the body which once was my pride. I've lost everything amidst a herd of lusty swines who cared only about battering me, and enduring the pleasure they derived out of this shit!"
Shyam, went and hugged her, and wiped her tears off, signalling by a nod of the head not to cry. Then he went up to the window.
"You might not have all this, but you have something more valuable, my heart. I do not care for what you do not possess, that is immaterial to me, I love you, and you only, not your attributes!"

Chapter 8
As she woke up, she was wondering where she was. The place seemed unfamiliar. The uterus still hurt. She got ready to get up, when a dark lady, dressed in red, came to the room. She looked like a monstor, a lioness waiting to pounce on its prey, an innocent lamb.
She walked into the room, and started off. "Look what we've got here. Fresh meat huh! Let's eat some."
Deepika didn't get a word. But she got the clue. She was in a brothel, a god-damned brothel. Where was Dev? She wanted to see him immediately. She wanted to run into those loving, warm arms, and feel the comfort for years to come. This was not where she deserved to be. Was she having a nightmare? No, the stomach was hurting now, it definitely wasn't a nightmare.
As she kept thinking, the dark lady, her lips bristling, pounced upon her, and started violently kissing her. She tried to push her away and run, but she was too strong for her. There wasn't much she could do. She was being subjected to homosexuality, and she couldn't stand it. The lady slapped her, and got more violent. Her body was ravaged once again.
As her body was losing the value it once held, she looked up to the window, and saw Ramlal Choudhury and Dev laughing. The bastard had been part of all of it. Choudhury had his revenge on Shyam, after more than five years. Deepika was a pawn in his game. The moment he knew Shyam had something for her, his focus shifted to Deepika. To see Deepika distraught, and lost in life was the worst thing he could give Shyam in return. All the careful planning had worked out. His sister's son Dev, had given it an execution even god couldn't have worked out. If the planning had been the setting, Dev had been the most exquisite performance, and the pain Deepika was undergoing now was the Prestige!
It was all downhill hence for Deepika. She lived a life of drudgery, till today morning, when Ramesh slid a piece of paper saying someone was coming to save her, when she got alarmed. Unable to trust people anymore, she decided to flee, before someone else could play with her life. As she ran, and people gave chase, someone said, "Deepa, you won't regret this and knocked her down."

Chapter 7
Deepika's world was just ideal. She had a wonderful life. She had the man she loved. He no longer cared for any other woman, he had the most wonderful beau in the world. Life at times, is perfect. It used to be hours of work, which collapsed in the thought of the wonder that was to follow, splendid dinners, followed by hours of lovemaking. She lost count of months, and in his presence, all else that mattered to her otherwise, was of hardly any significance. Life seemed to be moving on the fast track, and not that she complained.
But the problem arised when she had an unexpected pregnancy. For the first time in many months, concerns attacked her likes bats. What would the society say? An unmarried mother was the biggest taboo in the Indian society. She didn't want to get married immediately too. An abortion was the way to go. She ran to Dev, and all it took was one comforting arm of his to set all her fears to rest. He would take her to a doctor, and the abortion would be performed. Then it would be all normal again, and life would be filled with more work, and more candle-lit dinners, and many more hours of love-making, safe love-making of course!!
He took her to a doctor, who examined her, and then, she was taken to an operation theatre. It seemed like a dungeon, but hell who cared, her Dev was waiting for her outside, and he will make a joke or two, get her smiling again after this was over. What followed was pure savage. She kept seeing, as the one, that would have been her little one, was killed even before he could step into the world, and discarded. What was more difficult was the pain. The savages just dug into her. She could bear the pain no more, and started screaming. Outside, as Dev sat hearing the screams, he got a call. It read Ram uncle. He picked it.
"Choudhury here, how's the status?"
"It's done uncle. She's all yours!"

Chapter 6
Dev Raman was an NRI, a very suave charming guy. A look at him would tell you that he was one who had courted many, and bedded even more. He had a face, a body language, that would make any girl swoon, and he knew how to use it well too. When Deepika met him the first time, she knew this guy was the ultimate asshole she'd met. One could obviously say he was trying to flirt with her, and she kept avoiding his company as much as possible.
"Would you accompany me for dinner?"
"No, I have dance class.."
"It's break-time, let's go for a cup of coffee?"
"No, I have to talk to my parents now."
"Apparently the latest George Clooney starrer is awesome, Wanna come with me?"
"O I'm sorry, I don't watch movies."
It was around this period, when one evening, Deepika missed out on her pen-drive in the office. As she went back to collect it, she realised the power inside had been shut down, and the person who had left the place last according to the log was Dev. She called up to find if he could hand the entry pass to her to get the pen drive. He was twelve kilometers away, and she gave up. Dejected she came home and sat down.
An hour later, the front door bell rang. On opening the door, she found Dev.
"You??"
"Yes, here, take this...", said Dev handing out the pen drive.
"Oh thanks a lot, you really didn't have to do this, did you? I'm sorry.."
"I did have to do it, .... for you... "
"Sweet of you.."
"Dinner?"
Finally, the asshole had come to it, but didn't make a difference. He'd done her a favour. She would do him one by accompanying him for dinner. At dinner, she realised he had deep knowledge about so many things in the world. The NRI, was an asshole yeah, but not a fool. She found herself enticed by him, but kept warning herself. Giving herself to him was like walking blindly into an open trap. The food was done, the desserts were done, and post a couple of drinks, she hardly had any control over her desires. He was simply too irresistible. They walked up to his apartment, and he got started with her. She thought, he might have done this to a million other people, hell I'm just another one. I know I'm gonna be screwed, literally. But then he came into her, and again, and once again, and the ecstasy enveloped her. He kept saying, your beautiful, Princess, like her mom once used to say. He was all hers now, and she had discovered true love, or so she thought!!

Chapter 5
It was the most important day of their lives. It was the day any student would remember for the rest of his life. The day he got his degree, the degree he had earned for so many years. The campus was full of butterflies, students full of life. They were eagerly waiting to get to that moment, the moment they wanted to savour completely, they wanted to enjoy every single second of that.
Shyam and Deepika spent the day together. Chatting, reminiscing the good days that went by, talking about how futures were going to be, and waiting for that decisive moment. The fact that they had none others to accompany them on this eventful day was another thing, but it did not change the massive importance this date held to them one bit. They had enjoyed every bit of their college life, and they were determined to make it count, and this would be the entry gate to it all.
The names were being announced, and Deepika and Shyam had their moments of honour. Needless to say, Shyam was his batch topper, and was awarded with a special gold medal for his outstanding academic record. It seemed like nothing would stop him from the IPS he so badly wanted. But he knew this evening held far more significance than all that.
That evening, at dinner for the graduates, Deepika and he had a quick dinner, and set off on a walk. It was sometime in the middle when Shyam popped the question. He was in love with her for four years, and couldn't hold it any longer. Deepika, a head strong lady, one with many aims in life, and with ideas to not waver, one who thought love was a distraction that came in the way of an achieving woman, had an obvious answer. Shyam didn't talk for rest of the walk, and they knew with every passing moment they were moving miles apart internally. Shyam bade goodbye. She had not seen him after that, till today of course.
And a certain Mr.Choudhury was watching all this from a distance...

Chapter 4
A thud brought her senses back. She was in a car, travelling along. She did not know where she was, or what she was doing. All she hoped was, whatever the future held in store for her, it could never surprise or take her by shock as it once had. She felt like a rusted iron piece, she didn't remember when the last time was when people actually meant something to her. It was once a dream living a life the way she was. But now it no longer was. She didn't know for sure if she even wanted to live any more. Or probably even that didn't matter much to her.
Her head was hurting badly, and she didn't have the strength to look up as to who was in front. She closed her eyes, and felt some comfort. It was a matter of seconds before she dozed off. Her dreams were disturbed. Distorted figures in all shapes came to torment her. Peace was something she'd once known, but now, even sleep had always regularly forgotten to bring in that element with it. It wasn't easy to be a prostitute. A forced one, at that. Life was unfair, it always was, to her atleast, or so she thought.
It was not a simple task she was enduring, to fill in the shoes of so many people. She had made it a job filling in other's shoes, that her shoes didn't fit her anymore. Not that she liked the job, but she'd gotten used to it. Her men weren't tormentors, except for a select few. They were sex starved men, and she lived in a market where sex was a commodity. It was an ideal customer-shopkeeper relationship. She had learnt this and a lot more from Dev Raman. She thought, "If only,...., but it doesn't matter, wasn't happening anyways." As she discarded the thought, a chill rage rose in her.
